The Black Hills Health & Education Center School of Massage is pleased to offer continuing education courses and workshops to massage therapists, bodyworkers and health care professionals. Continuing education is essential for the practicing massage therapist to stay up to date on current trends and to broaden one's knowledge of massage and related sciences. We strive to offer courses that will keep you inspired, engaged and challenged. Our continuing education courses and workshops are approved for fulfilling the continuing education requirement for massage therapy license renewal in the state of South Dakota. The concept of this course is to look for the cause of somatic dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system and to facilitate resolution of mechanical discords in the musculoskeletal system that present as acute and chronic pain or tender points. This course will provide the student with a basic knowledge and understanding of positional release technique as it relates to and integrates with massage therapy.
The class will include how to identify and evaluate musculoskeletal dysfunction through palpation and direct observation; how to eliminate protective muscle spasm and chronic contraction in soft tissues; how to restore normalization of the length-tension relationship in the involved muscles, and normal tone and flexibility to the soft tissue.
This is a medical hydrotherapy course to further the knowledge base of massage therapists, body workers and nurses whose work with client referrals includes the use of medically oriented hydrotherapy as an efficacious adjunct to therapeutic massage therapy and a rehabilitative therapeutic modality for natural relief of pain and client wellness. The course will include the principles of hydrotherapy; the physiological effects elicited through hydrotherapy applications; and the use of specific therapeutic hydriatic techniques involving thermotherapy, cryotherapy, and contrast therapy.
Learn popular spa body treatments that provide therapeutic and relaxation benefits. Herbs, sea and earth elements will be explored. Spa body treatments can be incorporated into a massage or they can be offered separately. Knowledge and skills will be gained through hands-on exchange, demonstration and lectures. Therapeutic effects & relaxation benefits, treatment protocols, indications & contraindications, commercial products, making your own products, scope of practice and basic equipment will be covered. Participants will gain an understanding of techniques and their relationships to the systems of the body. Salt glows, sugar scrubs, mud wraps, and firming and trimming wraps will be covered.
